WEBSITES
A mobile website checklist for service businesses
Check the details that help a customer read, trust and contact your business on a phone.

Make the first screen useful
A mobile visitor should understand what you do, who it is for and where to go next. Avoid letting a large decorative image push every useful detail out of view. A short headline and a specific description can establish relevance quickly.
Check the navigation with your thumb. Labels should make sense without hovering, and the menu should close predictably. Test sticky headers and contact buttons to ensure they do not cover important content.
Design text for reading
Use short sections, descriptive headings and enough space between different ideas. Long service descriptions are easier to follow when each section answers a recognisable question. Do not hide essential conditions in tiny text.
Review colour contrast and zoom behaviour. Meaning should not depend only on colour. If a button becomes unreadable or content disappears when text is enlarged, the layout needs attention.
Give forms a careful review
Use visible labels and suitable input types. Explain what is required and give errors that help the visitor correct the problem. Preserve entered information after a recoverable error where possible.
Test the form with the on-screen keyboard open. Check whether the submit button is reachable and whether the confirmation clearly states what happens next. A form that looks elegant in a desktop screenshot may be frustrating during actual use.
Measure speed and stability
Google’s Core Web Vitals describe loading, responsiveness and visual stability. They are useful diagnostic measures, not a substitute for completing the customer journey yourself. Images, fonts and third-party scripts are sensible places to investigate when a page feels slow.
Give images appropriate dimensions so the page can reserve space before they load. Avoid adding large media files simply because they look good on a fast office connection.
Test the contact handoff
Tap phone, email and messaging links on real devices. Confirm that the destination and any prefilled text are correct. Check whether a customer returning from another app can continue where they left off.
Keep a brief issue list with severity and an owner. Fix problems that prevent contact before polishing details that do not affect the task. Repeat the check after significant content or layout changes.
PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
